Today we progressed our pre-felting of last week into a finished piece of felting ready for beading, stitching or otherwise embellishing by using a piece of inspiration and making up a piece of felt background into which we incorporated other cut shapes of pre-felt.
Quite interesting to see the different effects and ideas from each of the super ladies on this course! We are getting to know one another well now and I'm certain we must be one of the noisiest classes in the Centre! No pictures this week as tutor, Sarah Hazell, has kindly taken mine home for a good rolling and mashing with her rather scary looking felting-rolling-pin! It IS rather exhausting work and a health issue precludes me from wearing myself out at this stage! phew!
I've started looking at things! in a creative way! which is rather worrying! as it makes ones head spin and buzz, and its spins and buzzes enough on its own without any extra help!

My Fabric Scraps (stash)
My fabric stash is generally very well sorted and housed in (large!) storage areas according to "type". When I decided to try my hand at quilting I had to completely reorganise due to some strange compulsion that followed on with an addiction to buying fat quarters and such like - I ran out of room, officially, about midway through last year and had to put all my "scraps" (generally pieces of fabric left from projects which I would previously have thrown away but which now come in handy for things like small quilt-y type projects, mostly they are cottons but not exclusively) into plastic bags! I manage with a bit of heaving and use of knee to hold it down while I slide the catch "shut" TO get it all in my hamper basket but its a bit like a jack-in-the-box! in that you have to stand back when releasing the catch as it all inevitably explodes in the air with a "ta-daa! catch MEEEE".

Above are two shots of the bags that generally lie the bottom of the basket!
I'd love to hear how others manage their fabric stash! in particular those small useful pieces that one feels one simply OUGHT to keep for "just in case" moments of creativity ..
More Craziness - scrap rolls of fabric
I HAD to buy this! It called out to me from the back of the shop, round the corner and under a shelf - yes I DID hear its plaintive cry!!
PINK! PINK YUMMINESS of a HUGE roll of yummy scrummy pink fabric strips! all for £2 a roll! Goodness knows what I shall do with it or when! But I had to have it!!
I was forced to visit the shop due to my daylight lamp's bulb failing and I had to buy a new one - went IN for a bulb, came out with a bunch of fabric, a pair of sewing machine earings and a novely quilt-pin (and very NEARLY a couple of books, a needle punching kit and half a dozen magazines but cash was limited!!)

Absolutely SUPER colours and a change from red!

Embroidery Stitches - a sampler
Last night I decided to start working on a few of the embroidery stitches from one of several library books I loaned recently and which will be due back shortly!! Annoyingly I discovered that some miserable person has torn out a few pages from one of the books too! I shall have to mention it to the librarian when I hand them in!
This happens a lot at work, too. Folk just rip out or tear off what they want (and don't, presumably want to PAY for) and they cut into fabric and trims too!
Anyway.
Back to stitching: looks a bit of a muddle and a jumble, but you can see I've started with a few "outline" stitches and am planning to work my way down doing a line of as many as I can fit! Some of these stitches I half know how to work, but its not easy reading instructions and trying to work out which WAY to hold your hands! I'm not a natural with hand-stitching, I'm far more comfortable with a machine but I did enjoy the few that I worked on last night! not the LEAST because I hit upon the brilliant idea to drag IN one of the new lovely leather chairs we bought the lads at Christmas to my sewing room and MUCH more luxurious and comfy than my rather tatty, slightly broken and thus wonky "typists" chair!
It goes without saying, this did NOT go down well with the lads!

Here is the beginnings of my sampler where I've started with some "outline" stitches:-

More Craziness (and log cabins)
Look what I did today! Another crazy patch sample! I love it! Finding it really nice and absorbing just BEING with my scraps which are now housed in a few plastic bags and "live" in my xmas hamper!! I should, perhaps, have gone for different colours but as I wanted a few pieces all ready and sewn for practicing the embellishing and stitching side of the process stuck with the red colours just in CASE I decide to actually do something with them!!

Whilst looking IN my bag of scraps I came across these log cabins I went mad on sewing ages ago. Not sure whether I'll do anything with them .. the moment of enthusiasm has gone ..
